PFLUGERVILLE โ Everything is clicking for the Georgetown girls basketball team at the right time.
Head coach Rhonda Farney attributes the Eagles’ success to team chemistry, which was on full display Friday at Weiss High School in Pflugerville.
Georgetown soared to a 62-55 win over District 23-5A rival Hendrickson in the Class 6A Division II Region IV championship to advance to the state semifinals for the first time since 2014.
โThey love each other,โ Farney said. โThey wanted to be playing at this stage, and to do that everyone had to know their role.โ
The Eagles move on to face the winner of Pieper-San Antonio Wagner, which was rescheduled to 3 p.m., Saturday.
Friday was a bit of redemption for the Eagles, who won their two regular season meetings with Hendrickson. The Hawks have had Georgetown’s number in recent history, sweeping the regular season series in each of the past two years.
Gerogetown (33-4) wasn’t going to be denied this time and quickly asserted its dominance.
Despite an early first-quarter run by Hendrickson (23-14), the Eagles, led by senior guards Reese Hoadley and Bella Dabbs, closed out the quarter on a 12-3 run. Hoadley dropped a game-high 27 points, while senior forward Cassady Lee added 14.
Hendrickson found success in the third quarter after increasing the pressure defensively on Georegtown. However, the Hawks were ubable to overtake the lead from the Eagles. Georgetown led by double digits for most of the second half. Niyah Waters led the Hawks with 20 points, while forward Trinity Jackson added 15.
