The 2025 UIL state wrestling tournament begins Friday at The Berry Center in Cypress. Several Austin-area teams and wrestlers qualified for the tournament and will be challenging for gold.

Wrestlers to watch

Mila Juarez, San Marcos, sophomore: The Region IV-6A champion in the 120-pound weight class has the second-best overall record (34-3) among the 16 qualifiers. She will be challenged by Vanessa De La Cruz from Conroe College Park.
Maxfield Rotches, McNeil, senior: The Region IV-6A champion in the 145-weight class enters the tournament with a 24-4 record. She is ins a tough bracket, but has a real shot at reaching the medal stand, if not winning.
Summer Williams, Smithson Valley, junior and Sophia Silva, Rouse senior: Williams was the Region IV-5A champion, while Silva was the Region III-5A champion. Both enter the tournament with only four losses this season and are challengers to Mariah Dillard from Azle, who enters the 114-weight class bracket with a 39-0 overall record.
Chyenne Velasquez, Davenport, senior: The 5A bracket is loaded with local wrestlers, including Glenn’s Layla Hines, Georetown’s Avey Norwood, Piper’s Macie Jung and New Braunfels Riley Emma Castilleja. Velasquez (37-1) is a heavy favorite with the overall best record of the field of 16.

Where: The Berry Center, Cypress
Ticket information: Tickets sales are online only and can be purchased at HomeTownticketing.com. Tickets are $15 per day or $25 for an all-tournament pass.
Parking: Parking at the Berry Center is free.
Schedule
Friday: Doors open at 7:30 a.m. and matches are scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m.
Saturday: Doors open at 7:30 a.m. and semifinal matches are scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. Third-place matches are slated to start at 2:30 p.m., while championships are set for 4:45 p.m.
