Austin-area men’s basketball rankings (1/20): Stony Point, Liberty Hill & St. Michael’s stay atop our weekly Top 5s

There was no movement in our Top 5s for Class 6A and 5A.

Lago Vista lost to LBJ last week and dropped two spots in our small school rankings to No. 5, moving La Grange to No. 3 and Thorndale to No. 4.

The hottest team in the Austin-area has yet to crack the rankings, but the Lake Travis Cavaliers are in one of the best playoff chases in the Austin area.

The Cavaliers defeated Del Valle and Dripping Springs last week to extend their winning streak to six games. Lake Travis is currently in second place in District 26-6A, with a one game lead over the Tigers and Bowie.

The Cavs are still three games back on Westlake in the district championship picture with five games to go. The Chaps can wrap up the district title on Tuesday with a win over the red-hot Cavaliers.

There’s five games left in the regular season and several local teams will clinch a playoff berth this week. Seven teams have already claimed their ticket to the 2025 UIL Texas high school basketball playoffs.
