Austin-area men’s basketball rankings: St. Michael’s tops small school Top 5, Stony Point back on top in 6A

St. Michaelโ€™s takes over the No. 1 spot in the Austin Sports Journalโ€™s Class 4A and others area rankings. The Warriors (19-4) may be the overall best team in the area and are the top ranked team in TAPPS.  

Stony Point flexed its muscles on Friday and handed Westwood its first loss of the season. The Tigers (20-4) showed they are still the class of the Austin Area with an 88-59 drubbing of the Warriors.  

In Class 5A, Leander (16-5) and East View (16-7) kept the top two spots, respectively.  The Lions are in first place in 25-5A, but Liberty Hill (18-5) and Rouse (15-8) are on their heels.  

East View has a big game Friday night at home against Hendrickson and looks to take control of 23-5A.

Vandegrift at Westwood, 7 p.m., Tuesday โ€“ The Warriors look to rebound from Fridayโ€™s loss to Stony Point at home against a bigger Vandegrift team.  

New Braunfels at Pieper, 6:30 p.m., Tuesday โ€“ Two of the best teams in 26-5A face off in a highly competitive 10-team district.  

Dripping Springs at Westlake, 7:30 p.m., Friday โ€“ Upstart Dripping Springs looks to dethrone the Chaps at home and take possession of first place in 26-6A.  

Thorndale at Holland, 7:30 p.m., Friday โ€“ The remaining two unbeaten teams in District 27-2A face off.  

Hendrickson at East View, 7 p.m., Friday โ€“ Another area game on the schedule with district championship implications.
