District play will begin for most Austin-area girls basketball teams next week. While it’s still early in the 2024-25 Texas high school girls basketball season, several teams are off to hot starts. That means’ its time for our first girls basketball rankings of the season.

Vista Ridge was the easy pick for No. 1 in Class 6A, but Bowie and Vandegrift are on the Rangers’ heels.

District 25-5A is the “District of Doom” of the Austin area. Glenn, Liberty Hill, Cedar Park, Rouse and Hays are all off to fast starts to the season and will provide some fun games this season.

The Grizzlies take the No. 1 spot in our 5A rankings, but Liberty Hill is inches behind. The surprise in 5A is Bastrop. The Bears are 13-1 in the early season.

Keep an eye on the small schools. Manor New Tech is off to an 11-0 start and the No. 1 team in our area rankings. Johnson City and Lexington are close behind at 9-1.
