Each week through the regular season, the Austin Sports Journal will poll readers to select the Austin Area High School Player of the Week. Voting will begin Monday morning and end Tuesday at 12 p.m. The winner will be announced on Tuesday.
Nominations will be taken from coaches stats submissions and box scores available on MaxPreps. Coaches are encouraged to send in nominations on Sunday afternoons each week to madams@austinsportsjournal.com. The deadline for nominations is noon, Sundays. Only nominations for coaches will be accepted.
This week’s nominees are:
Jayson Hobbs, Jarrell: The junior running back rushed for 339 yards and scored four touchdowns of 75, 64, 74 and 40 yards in the Cougars’ win over Lago Vista.
Chance Parker, Thrall: The senior quarterback finished the night with 414 total yards and seven touchdowns. He completed 13 of 17 pass attempts for 297 yards and had five passing touchdowns, while rushing for 117 yards on eight carries with two more scores.
Caleb Crenshaw, LBJ: The senior running back rushed for 198 yards on 12 carries and scored two touchdowns in the Jaguars’ win over Travis.
Anthony Hernandez, Hays: The junior running back rushed for 171 yards on 23 carries and scored two touchdowns in the Hawks’ win over Lockhart.
Jett Walker, Georgetown: The junior running back had 250 total yards, which included 212 yards on 16 carries and four touchdowns in the Eagles’ win over Killeen Chaparral.
