Westwood splits doubleheader with Johnson in regional quarterfinal series (photos)

DRIPPING SPRINGS โ€“ Westwood only needed one run to take a one game advantage in its best-of-three Class 6A-Region IV quarterfinal series.

However, San Antonio Johnson responded in the second game of Friday’s doubleheader at Tiger Field in Dripping Springs to force a game three.

In the first game, the Warriors (24-9-1) scored the only run of the game in the top of the first on a bunt by Lane Wood to plate Jackson Gula and held on to win 1-0.

Pitcher Owen Norrell got out of a couple of jams in the fifth and sixth inning when Johnson had runners in scoring position. In the seventh inning, Jacob Wright came in for relief and finished out the game and picked up the save.

In the second game, Johnson got to ace Ridge Morgan early and jumped out to a 3-0 lead after three innings. The Jaguars (24-9) added seven more runs to tie the series and force a deciding Game 3 on Saturday, scheduled for 2 p.m. at Dripping Springs’ Tiger Field.
