Austin area also had multiple players win silver medals in Friday’s finals at UIL state tournament

SAN ANTONIO โย Taylor’s Rylee Michna put on a tennis clinic in Friday’s Class 4A girls singles finals at the UIL state tennis tournament, defeating Aracely Salinas of Corpus Christi West Oso in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.
Michna didn’t break a sweat on her way to winning her second straight Class 4A singles title. The sophomore won her quarterfinal match on Thursday only losing one game en route to beating Lauren Brooks of Canyon in straight sets.
In her semifinal match later that afternoon, Michna beat Stafford’s Amanni Karera, 6-3, 6-0.
Michna was one of two state titles won by Austin-area players on Friday.
Westwood’s Danny Zhang and Leon Chen beat teammates Sibi Raja and Aditya Paravasthuramesh in a three-set thriller, 5-7, 6-4, 6-2, to win the Class 6A boys doubles championship.
Friday’s final was the second straight three-set match for Zhang and Chen, who beat Brady Enstrom and Benjamin Vo of Tomball Memorial in the semifinals in three sets.
In other finals action involving Austin athletes:
- Westlake’s Luke Riezebeek was the Class 6A boys singles runner-up, falling to Allan Xu of Katy Seven Lakes, 6-3, 6-3.
- Westwood’s Anwi Duduka and Dana Kardonik were the Class 6A girls doubles runners up, falling to Allen’s Chelsie Son and Saheba Singh, 6-4, 1-6, 7-5.
- LASA’s William Gu was the Class 5A boys singles runner-up, falling to Fort Bend Kempner’s Noey Do, 6-2, 6-1.
- Burnet’s Tatum Salinas and Alyssa Van Zandt was the Class 4A girls doubles runner up, falling to Kynlee Craddock and Gabriella DiShong of Canyon Randall, 5-7, 7-5, 6-3.
