Westlake’s Luke Riezebeek reaches 6A boys singles final

SAN ANTONIO – A team from Westwood will win the boys doubles state championship.
Sibi Raja and Aditya Paravasthuramesh will face teammates Danny Zhang and Leopn Chen in Friday’s boys double finals, set for 11 a.m. at the Annemarie Tennis Center in San Antonio.
Both teams from Westwood won their quarterfinal and semifinal matches on Thursday.
Raja and Paravasthuramesh won their quarterfinal match over Houston Strake Jesuit’s Faysal Alameddine and Brandon Brown 6-3, 6-4 and went on to defeat Southlake Carroll’s Andy Li and Rushi Rajpal 6-1, 6-1 in the semifinal.
Zhang and Chen had a tougher road to the finals. The Warriors’ duo needed three sets to put away Brady Enstrom and Benjamin Vo, 3-6, 7-6 (7), 6-3.
Westwood has a chance to bring home the girls doubles championship as well.
Anwi Duduka and Dana Kardonik will face Allen’s Chelse Son and Saheba Singh in the finals, also set for 11 a.m.
Duduka and Kardonik won their quarterfinal and semifinal matches in straight sets, beating Plano West’s June Kim and Emma Thoms 6-2, 7-5 in the quarterfinals and then topping Tyler Legacy’s Audrey Deatherage and Sophie Miller 6-4, 7-5 in the semifinals.
Also in Class 6A, Westlake’s Luke Riezebeek will face Katy Seven Lakes’ Allan Xu in the boys singles finals at 9 a.m.
Riezebeek beat Bridgeland’s Praneet Tulluri 6-3, 6-3 in the quarterfinals and then beat Aidan Xu of Katy Seven Lakes 4-6, 6-0, 6-3.
In Class 5A, William Gu of LASA will face Fort Bend Kempner’s Nowe Do in the boys singles finals at 9 a.m.
Gu won his quarterfinal match in s straight sets 7-6, 6-1 and then won his semifinal match when Prosper Walnut Grove’s Matteo Mejia retired in the third set.
Burnet girls doubles team Tatum Salinas and Alyssa Van Zandt reached the Class 4A girls doubles final
Salinas and Van Zandt wept through their quarterfinal and semifinal matches, winning 6-3, 6-2 and 6-3, 6-3.
The Bulldogs duo will face Canyon Randall’s Kynlee Craddock and Gabriella DiShong in the championship match, scheduled for 11 a.m.
Also, in Class 4A, Taylor’s Rylee Michina will play in Friday’s girls singles final at 9 a.m. against Corpus Christi West Oso’s Aracely Salinas
Michina dropped a total of four games in her quarterfinal and semifinal matches. She beat Lauren Brooks of Canyon 6-0, 6-1, and then went on to defeat Amanni Karera of Houston Stafford in the semifinals 6-3, 6-0.
Other results from Thursday’s action at the state tournament:
- Lake Travis’ Juliana Creel lost in the Class 6A girls singles quarterfinals, 6-2, 6-0.
- Westwood’s Simryn Jacob and Janya Tellabati lost in the Class 6A girls doubles quarterfinals, 3-6, 7-5, 7-5.
- Westlake’s Abhinav Bulusu and Chloe Zeng lost in the Clas 6A mixed doubles quarterfinals, 6-1, 6-4.
- Austin High’s Willow Dymkowski and Danny Karia lost in the Class 6A mixed doubles semifinals, 3-6, 6-2, 7-5.
- Glenn’s Alissyn Chan and Juhitha Kashidi lost in the Class 5A girls doubles semifinals, 6-0, 6-1.
- Liberty Hill’s Jacob Cooper and Ryan Delmonico lost in the Class 5A mixed doubles quarterfinals, 6-1, 6-2.
- Marble Falls’ Cooper Womack lost in the Class 4A boys singles quarterfinals, 2-6, 6-4, 6-1.
- Wimberley’s girls doubles team of Kennedy Carson and Kat Carson lost in the Class 4A semifinals, 6-3, 7-5.
- Wimberley’s Marcus Gonzales and Gwen Pierce lost in Class 4A mixed doubles quarterfinals ,6-1, 7-6 (4).
- Wimberley’s Brandon Kirchner and Emily Stoian lost in the Class 4A mixed doubles quarterfinals, 6-2, 7-5.
- Thrall’s Peyton Gilmore lost in the Class 2A boys singles quarterfinals, 6-1, 6-4.
