Austin-area baseball rankings (4/17): No changes at No. 1 as season enters final stretch

Round Rock, McCallum and Taylor join rankings for first time

The 2024 Texas high school baseball season will conclude next Tuesday as the area’s postseason picture becomes clearer.

San Marcos, Cedar Park and Thorndale keep their respective top spots in On the Sidelines Sports’ weekly baseball rankings.

We welcome three newcomers ­– Round Rock (6A), McCallum (5A) and Taylor (4A-1A) – to this week’s Power 5s.


Despite the three newcomers, there wasn’t a lot of movement from our last rankings.

Dripping Springs jumped two spots to No. 3 in the Class 5A rankings, while Liberty Hill jumped to No. 2 in Class 5A, and Gateway overtook Lago Vista for No. 2 in the Class 4A-1A rankings.

Here are this week’s Greater Austin Metro Area baseball rankings:

Class 6A

1. San Marcos, 23-5 (Last ranking: 1)

2. Lake Travis, 21-6-1 (LR: 2)

3. Dripping Springs, 20-8 (LR: 5)

4. Round Rock, 19-9 (LR: NR)

5. Bowie, 19-7 (LR: 4)

Dropped out: Weiss (17-8-1)

Class 5A

1. Cedar Park, 21-5 (LR: 1)

2. Liberty Hill, 19-5 -2 (LR: 4)

3: Rouse, 22-6-1 (LR: 2)

4. Georgetown, 17-9-1 (LR: 5)

5. McCallum, 17-10 (LR: NR)

Dropped out: Hays (19-8)

Class 4A

1. Thorndale, 23-1-1 (LR: 1)

2. Gateway, 13-9-1 (LR: 4)

3. Lago Vista, 15-7-1 (LR: 2)

4. Thrall, 19-7-1 (LR: 3)

5. Taylor, 13-9-2 (LR: NR)
