Soccer replay: Area girls teams continue dominance in area round

From staff reports

Girls soccer teams from the Greater Austin Metro Area continued their dominance in area playoff games on Friday.

Austin area girls soccer teams went 5-0 Friday night in second round playoff matches with Round Rock, Georgetown, Leander, Liberty Hill and Cedar Park advancing to the regional quarterfinals.

Fridayโ€™s showing came on the heels of a 8-2 night on Thursday from the Austin area, including McCallumโ€™s huge upset win over Magnolia. Westlake, Lake Travis, Anderson, Hendrickson, Rouse, Giddings and Wimberley also picked up area playoff wins.

Taylorโ€™s girls play Needville on Saturday  in a Class 3A-Region III area playoff.

The areaโ€™s dominance in the second round sets the stage for some hyper-local regional quarterfinal matches, which guarantees five area teams will play in next weekendโ€™s regional tournaments.

  • Westlake vs. Lake Travis, 6:30 p.m., Tuesday at Dripping Springs
  • Anderson vs. Round Rock, TBD
  • McCallum vs. Georgetown, TBD

Other regional quarterfinal matchups are:
