From staff reports
Gatorade announced Thursday that Stony Pointโs Josiah Mosley was selected as the 2023-24 Gatorade Texas Boys Basketball Player of the Year. Gatorade honors high school athletes for excellence in the classroom, on the court and in the community.
Moseley is the first Gatorade Texas Boys Basketball Player of the Year to be chosen from Stony Point High School and the second player from the Austin area to win the award in the past five years. Vandegrift standout Greg Brown III won the award for the 2019-20 season.
The 6-foot-8 senior forward averaged 22.8 points, 8.9 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 1.1 steals and 1.8 blocks this season, leading the Tigers (38-2) to the Class 6A state championship game.
Moseley has maintained a 3.02 GPA in the classroom and concluded his high school career with 2,096 points. A member of Stony Pointโs Student Council, he has volunteered locally at elementary schools, visiting with students and assisting fifth graders who need help with reading or social skills. Moseley has also donated his time to multiple youth basketball camps.
The postseason awards have been plentiful. He was also selected as Mr. Texas Basketball by Dave Campbellโs Texas Basketball and was On the Sidelines Sportsโ Mr. Austin Basketball, given to the top overall player from the Greater Austin Metro Area.
The Villanova-bound Moseley is in good company winning the Gatorade Player of the Year. NBA stars LeBron James, Karl Anthony Towns and Jason Tatum have all been selected as Gatorade Players of the Year in their respective states.
As part of Gatoradeโs commitment to breaking down barriers in sport, every Player of the Year also receives a grant to donate to a social impact partner. To date, Gatorade Player of the Year winnersโ grants have totaled more than $4.9 million across more than 1,600 organizations.
