A late season push propelled a talented Bowie Bulldogs into the postseason.
The reward?
A first-round matchup on Monday with the No. 2 team in the state – Stony Point – and Villanova-signee Josiah Mosley.
That, sometimes, is the unfortunate luck of the draw in the UIL basketball playoffs.
Stony Point’s athleticism and speed proved to be too much for Bowie, as the Tigers (33-1) rolled to a 78-62 bi-district win at the Toney Burger Center in south Austin.

To Bowie’s credit, the Bulldogs (23-11) didn’t back down from their formidable opponent. Seniors Daarius Williams and Braden Spinden scored 21 points each, and Bowie did trail by as little as four points.
However, Moseley and company were well oiled machine that looked destined for the Alamodome and the state tournament in two weeks.
Mosley scored at-will, dropping 22 points to go with with seven rebounds. He scored 14 of his points in the first quarter alone.
It wasn’t just Mosley that gave Bowie problems.
Juniro Uziah Buntyn scored 14 points to go with six rebounds, while senior Alan Guyton Jr. finished with 17 points and four assists. Guyton scored 10 of his points in the second quarter as Stony Point extended its lead to 20 points at halftime.
Stony Point will move on to face the winner of Tuesday’s San Antonio Clark-Converse Judson bi-district playoff in the area round, which begins Thursday and concludes on Friday.
Should the Tigers get past the next round, a potential regional quarterfinal matchup with Westlake is on the horizon.
