Georgetown’s Newell, Weiss’ Ahmad tabbed soccer players of the week, plus fab five performances

Girls player of the week

Finley Newell, Georgetown, sophomore midfielder

Newell broke Addie Russu’s school record for most goals in a game with five in the Lady Eagles 6-0 win over Cedar Creek on Tuesday.

Fab 5 performances

Lillian Vandiver, Vista Ridge, junior midfielder – Recorded a hat trick in the Lady Rangers win over Manor on Friday and then scored Vista Ridge’s lone goal in a 1-0 win over Vandegrift.

Cori Harper, Leander, junior forward – Scored four goals in Leander’s 18-0 offensive barrage against Lehman.

Marissa Lopez, Giddings, senior midfielder ­– Scored four goals and had one assist in the Lady Buffaloes win over Rockdale on Tuesday.

Breckyn Ferrell, Lake Travis, sophomore midfielder – Scored one goal and had an assist in Lake Travis’ 2-1 win over Austin High.

Jemma Hart, Cedar Park, freshman goalkeeper ­– Hart had two shutouts last week, which were her fourth and fifth of the season.

Boys player of the week

Sajjad Ahmad, Weiss, senior midfielder

Ahmad scored three goals three goals in Weiss’ 8-0 win over Copperas Cove on Friday and helped the Wolves to a victory over Bryan on Tuesday.  

Fab 5 performances

Griffin Crawley, Bowie, senior midfielder – Scored the Bulldogs only goal in a 1-0 win over Westlake on Friday and had one of three in Bowie’s win over Lake Travis.

Julian Bariga, East View, sophomore defender – Scored two goals last week and had an assist in the Patriots wins over Hendrickson and Pflugerville.

Yohannes Heins, LASA, senior, midfielder -Scored two goals in the Raptors’ 2-1 win over McCallum on Tuesday.

Roger Amador, Northeast, sophomore forward – Scored one goal and had three assists in the Raiders 6-3 win over Eastside on Friday.

Dharmendra Ramisingh, Liberty Hill, senior, forward – Scored two goals in Liberty Hill’s 4-0 win over Lohard on Tuesday.

Call for nominations

Each week, for the remainder of the regular season, On the Sidelines Sports will select a Player of the Week for both boys and girls soccer. Coaches are encouraged to submit nominations by noon on Wednesdays each week by emailing the player’s name, position, class and any pertinent stats for the week to madams@onthesidelinessports.com.
