Here are the On the Sidelines Sports Austin metro area boys and girls basketball Players of the Week for the Week of Jan. 9-12. Players are nominated by their coaches and chosen by On the Sidelines Sports Executive Director Michael Adams.

Girls Basketball Player of the Week

Maddie Broxterman, Vandegrift, freshman guard

Vandegrift’s freshman standout scored a team-high 15 points in the Lady Vipers’ upset of District 25-6A rival Cedar Ridge on Friday. On Tuesday, Broxterman shot 64% from the floor and 66% from behind the three-point line for a 19-point performance in Vandegrift’s win over Round Rock. Vandegrift is in a three-way tie for first place in 25-6A.

Boys Basketball Player of the Week

Nathan Scott, La Grange, senior guard

La Grange’s star guard had on heck of a week for the first-place Leopards. On Friday against Manor New Tech, Scott recorded a double double with 24 points and 22 rebounds to help lead La Grange to a 66-58 win. In the Leopards’ 61-48 victory on Tuesday against rival Giddings, Scott scored a game-high 22 points to go with 7 rebounds.

Each week, for the remainder of the regular season, On the Sidelines Sports will select a Player of the Week for both boys and girls basketball. Coaches are strongly encouraged to submit nominations by Saturday evening each week by emailing the player’s name, position, class and any pertinent stats for the week to madams@onthesidelinessports.com.
