The Westlake-Austin High rivalry got another chapter on Wednesday.

However, it read like the 15 others before it.

Senior guard Donovan Lee led a trio of Chaparrals scoring in double digits with 19 points as Westlake ran away with an 84-56 win over Austin High at Chaparral Gymnasium at Westlake High School.

The victory was the Chaparralsโ€™ 15th straight over the Marrons since Feb. 4, 2014. Westlake leads the all-time series 23-6 since 2008.

Austin High (6-8, 1-3 District 26-6A) briefly held a 17-16 lead after the first quarter. Junior guard Maverick Larson scored five of his team-high 16 points in the first frame. Sophomore Baur Lloyd and senior Samir Kassam also scored five points apiece in the quarter. Lloyd finished with 13 points, while Kassam ended the night with 10.

Westlake (13-5, 4-1) heated up from behind the three-point line in the second quarter and created a 12-point lead by halftime. Seniors Gavin Paull, Max Purushothaman and Andrew Cannatti each hit a three-pointer in the second frame.

Paull scored seven of his 17 points in the second quarter and was a perfect 9-for-9 from the free-throw line.

Senior post Wonder Kahozi added 13 points, which included two thunderous dunks in the third quarter.

Both teams are off until after the Christmas holiday and will resume action on Dec. 28 at different holiday tournaments. District 26-6A play will resume on Jan. 2.
