The top ranked teams in the Austin-metro area are the same this week. At 16-0, Stony Point is the class of Class 6A, but Lake Travis and Buda Johnson are at the Tigers heels.
Rouse is holding on to the Class 5A top spot, but Cedar Creek, Liberty Hill, East View and Elgin are right in the mix. Elgin and East View meet in the On the Sidelines Sports Game of the Week this Thursday. See a preview below.
Thrall is also undefeated to start the 2023-24 Texas high school basketball season, but District 27-2A rival Thorndale may have something to say about that in the near future.

Game of the week
Elgin at East View, 4 p.m., Thursday
Opening week for District 23-5A action has an intriguing matchup right out of the gate with Elgin (11-2) at East View (11-4). The Wildcats won seven games in a row before losing to Gateway on Dec. 8, but had wins over Lockhart, Vista Ridge and McCallum. East View has won six straight since losing to Lufkin Hudson at the Marble Falls Tournament on Dec. 2. The Patriots have an impressive win over Liberty Hill to their resume and beat Gateway in the season opener.
