The boys version of the Jack Frost Tournament was a who’s who in Austin-metro high school boys basketball.
When the dust settled, Stony Point (10-0) was the last team standing.
The Tigers are led by Villanova-signee Josiah Moseley and his 22.7 points per game. Moseley was named tournament most valuable player after helping Stony Point to the tournament championship.
The Tigers beat Lake Travis 66-63 in the championship game in a meeting of the top two teams in the On the Sidelines Sports’ boys basketball Class 6A rankings.
Stony Point’s win resume after the tournament’s conclusion included victories over Rouse, Argyle and Buda Johnson to go with the Tigers win over the Cavaliers.
Around the metro area
We’re about two weeks out from most districts beginning league play. District 26-6A play begins Tuesday with the Battle of the Lakes at Westlake High School. Lake Travis (13-1) is led by junior Hudson Greer, who averages 24.8 points and 7.9 rebounds per game. The Chaparrals went 4-1 at the Anderson Tournament over the weekend, losing to St. Michaels’ in the finals.
District 25-6A should be fun. While Stony Point is the top of the class, Westwood (9-3) has won four straight and is one of seven teams in the eight-team district with a winning record. Round Rock, Manor and Vandegrift all have three losses.
In 5A, Rouse, Liberty Hill and Lockhart of District 25-5A are off to hot starts with Cedar Park, Leander, Glenn and Hays in the picture. Much like the girls’ district, early non-district action indicates the boys district will be ultra-competitive.
