CEDAR PARK โ€“ย The only thing for sure in the District 25-6A postseason chase is that Vandegrift is the home for the championship.

The Vipers on Friday defeated Vista Ridge 45-0 at Gupton Stadium to claim the district title. Vandegrift (9-0, 6-0) will be the No. 1 seed from the district. Whether that’s in Division I or Division II remains to be seen.

Defensively, Vista Ridge (6-3, 3-3) frustrated the Vipers’ high-powered offense through the first half. The second half, however, was a different story.

Vandegrift senior quarterback Deuce Adams completed 17 of 26 pass attempts for 252 yareds and three touchdowns. Two of them happened in the second half on an 18-yard toss to Brock Chilton in the third quarter and another to Miles Coleman in the fourth.

Coleman finished with 8 catches for 109 yards and two touchdowns. His first was a 32-yard reception midway through the first quarter. Chilton had 4 catches for 76 yards.

On the ground, Brendan Fournier led the Vipers’ rushing attack. The junior rushed for 101 yards on 16 carries and scored his only touchdown on a 2-yard run midway through the third quarter. Senior Zaid Oliver rushed for 37 yards on 9 carries and scored on a 5-yard run with 2:42 left in the first quarter to put Vandegrift up 14-0.

Vista Ridge struggled against Vandegrift’s defense, which recorded its second straight shutout. Rangers quarterback Grant Anderson was sacked three times, and the Vipers had 12 total tackles for a loss.

Vandegrift closes the regular season at home on Friday against Westwood. Vista Ridge travels to Dragon Stadium to face Round Rock. Kickoff for both games is scheduled for 7 p.m.
