There are two weeks left in the high school football regular season, which means some postseason tickets have already been handed out, while many more playoff berths are on the line this week in Week 10.
Here’s a look at who’s in, who’s out, and who could be in this week for all of the Austin-area districts.
District 12-6A
Clinched a playoff berth: Weiss (Division II), Waco Midway (Division I), Harker Heights (Division II)
Eliminated: Temple, Copperas Cove
Playoff scenarios: The winner of Bryan vs. Hutto on Friday will clinch the final playoff spot and be the second Division I representative.
District 25-6A
Clinched a playoff berth: Vandegrift (TBD)
Eliminated: Cedar Ridge
Playoff scenarios: There are six teams fighting it out for three playoff spots and depending on how that plays out will determine if Vandegrift goes to Division I or Division II. Westwood can control its destiny with a win over Manor on Thursday… Vista Ridge also can control its destiny, but will need to beat Vandegrift on Friday in order to do so… Round Rock can help its cause with a win over Cedar Ridge, but needs McNeil to lose to Stony Point. It’s a mess, but the picture might be a little clearer after this week.
District 26-6A
Clinched a playoff berth: Westlake (Division I), Dripping Springs (Division II)
Eliminated: Del Valle, Akins, Austin High
Playoff scenarios: Lake Travis will clinch a playoff spot Friday with a win over Austin High. The Cavaliers will be a Division I representative. … Bowie and Buda Johnson are battling it out for the final playoff spot. The Bulldogs hold the head-to-head tiebreaker over Johnson if both teams end up tied, which could happen if Bowie loses to both Lake Travis and Westlake in its final two games. However, one scenario still exists for the Jaguars to make the postseason. Johnson can beat Akins and upset Westlake next week and get in if Bowie loses one of its final two games.
District 11-5A-Division I
Clinched a playoff berth: College Station, Georgetown, A&M Consolidated, Cedar Park
Eliminated: Hendrickson, Glenn, Leander, East View
Playoff scenarios: All of the playoff tickets are handed out, and positioning is pretty much settled. If A&M Consolidated loses to district front-runner College Station on Friday and Georgetown beats Glenn, the Eagles will claim the No. 2 seed.
District 12-5A-Division I
Clinched a playoff berth: none
Eliminated: MacArthur, Lehman, Hays
Playoff scenarios: Smithson Valley and San Antonio Wagner are in with wins this week. Boerne Champion and New Braunfels Canyon can claim the other two spots with a Seguin loss tonight and wins against Lehman and MacArthur.
District 11-5A-Division II
Clinched a playoff berth: none
Eliminated: Connally and Pflugerville
Playoff scenarios: Belton, Rouse, and Waco University can all officially clinch with wins in Week 10. All three teams are still alive in the district title chase. Elgin is off this week and is still alive. However, the Wildcats need Killeen Chaparral to lose to Belton and then beat Rouse next week to get in.
District 12-5A-Division II
Clinched a playoff berth: LBJ, McCallum, Crockett
Eliminated: Navarro, Northeast, Eastside
Playoff scenarios: The final playoff spot will be determined in the final week of the season regardless of what happens this week. The winner of the Week 11 matchup between Travis and Austin LASA will claim the fourth playoff spot.
District 13-5A-Division II
Clinched a playoff berth: New Braunfels Pieper
Eliminated: Cedar Creek
Playoff scenarios: Liberty Hill will clinch a playoff berth and eliminate Bastrop from playoff contention with a win Friday over the Bears… If Kerville Tivy beats Veterans Memorial and Lockhart loses to Pieper this week, both Tivy and Veterans Memorial will clinch playoff berths. However, Lockhart stays alive if Memorial beats Tivy and can make the playoffs if the Lions beat Tivy next week… Bastrop has to beat Liberty Hill and have Pieper and Tivy beat Lockhart and have Veterans Memorial beat Tivy to get in.
District 13-4A-Division I
Clinched a playoff berth: Davenport
Eliminated: Marble Falls
Playoff scenarios: Lampasas, Burnet, and Taylor are all in with wins this week. Canyon Lake will get in if it beats Taylor, or stay alive if it loses to Taylor and Lampasas loses to Marble Falls. Burnet could lose to Davenport Friday and still get in if Taylor beats Canyon Lake.
District 13-2A-Division I
Clinched a playoff berth: Holland
Eliminated: Thorndale
Playoff scenarios: Schulenburg and Thrall both clinch playoff spots with wins on Friday, or a loss by Flatonia to Weimer.
