Area tennis teams face off in regional quarterfinals

The University Interscholastic League team tennis playoffs continue this week with regional quarterfinal matches to set up this weekend’s regional tournaments. 

Four area teams will face off against each other in regional quarterfinal matches beginning on Monday. 

Westlake and Westwood face off on Monday in a Class 6A, Region IV quarterfinal at Lake Travis High School. To set up Monday’s regional quarterfinal, the Chaparrals defeated San Antonio Lee 10-0  in the area round, while Westwood defeated Northside Clark 10-0. 

This will be the second meeting this season between the Chaps and Warriors. Westwood defeated Westlake 15-4 in their regular season match on Aug. 31. 

In another Class 6A, Region IV quarterfinal, Lake Travis will meet Vandegrift on Tuesday at Westlake High School. Vandegrift defeated San Antonio Reagan 10-2 in the area round, while Lake Travis defeated San Antonio Johnson 10-1. 

The winners of both matches will advance to the regional tournament scheduled for Thursday and Friday at Northside Tennis Center in San Antonio. 

In Class 5A, Georgetown and Austin LASA will face off in a Region III quarterfinal on Tuesday at East View High School. The Eagles defeated A&M Consolidated 10-3 in the area round while LASA defeated Lake Creek 10-3 to advance to Tuesday’s regional quarterfinal. The winner will advance to Thursday’s regional tournament in College station. 

Cedar Park will face Alamo Heights in a Class 5A, Region IV quarterfinal. The Timberwolves defeated Southwest Legacy 13-0, while Alamo Heights defeated Liberty Hill 15-4. 

Leander will take on Boerne Champion in another Class 5A, Region IV quarterfinal. The Lions defeated San Antonio Southwest 12-1 in the area round. 

The winners of the two Region IV quarterfinals will advance to the regional tournament at the Blossom Tennis Center in San Antonio. 

Wimberley will take on Fredericksburg in a Class 4A, Region IV quarterfinal on Monday at Blossom Tennis Center in San Antonio. The winner will advance to the regional tournament on Thursday at the Annemarie Tennis Center in San Antonio.
