Friday marks the 18th annual Battle of the Lakes rivalry game between the Lake Travis Cavaliers and Westlake Chaparrals. The two teams kick off at 7:30 p.m. in front of a sold-out Cavalier Stadium
There have been some notable names that has played in this rivalry;
- Lake Travis: Garrett Gilbert, Baker Mayfield, Michael Brewer, Hudson Card, Garrett Willson, and Cameron Dicker
- Westlake: Nick Foles, Sam Ehlinger, Bryce and Brecken Hayger, Ryan Swope, Justin Tucker, and Cade Klubnik
Lake Travis leads the all-time series 11-6. The Cavaliers dominated this rivalry from 2008-2016, winning 10 straight meetings, including a Class 6A state quarterfinal on Dec. 2, 2016. Lake Travis went on to defeat the Woodlands 41-6 that year to claim its sixth state championship.
However, Westlake has won 4 of the last five meetings starting in 2017 by an average margin of victory of 23.5 points. Here’s a look throughout the years of one of Texas high school football’s best rivalries.
